Romney holds 6-point lead in Florida

Mon, Jan 28, 2008 by Stephen Covington

Odds & Ends

The most recent Rasmussen poll out on Saturday shows Mitt Romney at 33%, 6 points over John McCain’s 27% in Florida, leading up to the state’s January 29 primary election. Giuliani follows with 18%, and Huckabee and Paul with 12% and 2%, respectively. The telephone poll was conducted with 500 likely Republican voters, and was conducted just before Crist’s endorsement of the Arizona senator.

Among voters who consider the economy the most important issue, Romney has a very narrow edge over McCain, 37% to 33%. Among those who name either the War in Iraq or National Security issues as most important, the candidates are tied at 31%. Immigration is seen as the top issue by just 12% of Florida’s Likely Republican Primary Voters, but they overwhelmingly favor Romney over McCain by a 63% to 7% margin. Huckabee picks up 16% of those who consider immigration the top priority.

McCain is doing well with economy-focused voters, considering his recent gaffe involving that subject.  Romney’s strong stance on immigration seems to be helping him in Florida, a state with an increasingly large population of migrant workers, some of whom are left over from the construction boom, and many are moving to very conservative, rural areas that have not previously encountered them.  The real impact of Crist’s endorsement remains to be seen, but we won’t have to wait long - the time that could decisively turn the tide to one candidate or the other is now less than 48 hours away.

If you ran a major corporation, who would you hire as the CEO? The government is like a huge corporation.. millions of employees. Clearly, Mitt Romney is the BEST choice. 2 Harvard Degrees, 25 years advising the biggest companies in the world, etc… with the economy heading south, pick the best business man for the job!

I’ve interviewed and hired hundreds of people. If I was interviewing the current candidates for President, Romney would start in the morning, and I’d send Hillary, Obama and Whats his face to go see the competition.

  6. WendiR8 Says:

Our strong conservative base will NEVER vote for McCain. A vote for McCain is a vote for:

    1. Amnesty for all illegals
    2. Incompetence in the economic sector
    3. A lying, angry, old, senator who’s already had plenty of time to prove himself.
    4. An egotistic senator who takes credit for the surge….what a joke. All he did was say, “yeah, that’s a good idea.”
    5. Dropping the conservative bar about 10 notches just because the liberal media likes him.
    6. A good friend of Hillary Clinton’s.
    7. A huge step towards the end of free speech
    8. A man who divorced his ailing first wife, who waited for him as a pow. Then he married the scary looking woman he is now with for her money.
    9. Where is McCain’s family support?
    10. America is too positive to vote for McCan’t

There you are…We want a can-do man who doesn’t make excuses. Vote for Romney!!

  7. Michele Says:

McCain is an angry, bitter old man running as a one issue candidate: Iraq. His temper is legendary. Mitt Romney has run a very smart, well organized and dignified campaign. McCain is only used to sleazy tactics. Time to put John McCain out to pasture.

  8. D.Harris Says:

I know the real Mitt Romney - Patriotic, Educated, Intelligent, Articulate, Principled, Diplomatic, Hard Working, Savvy, Polished, Honorable, Faithful, Successful, Conservative, Family Man, Informed, Energetic, Fair, Capable, Talented, Open Minded, Experienced, Strong, Courageous, Charitable, Selfless, Respected … For every one of these attributes there is a true life story of the real Mitt Romney. I wish everyone could know the real Mitt Romney. Our country could only be well served by this man.

  9. Austin Cassidy Says:

Mitt Romney is a lousy excuse for a Republican. If he is the party’s nominee, it may very well destroy the GOP and will almost certainly guarantee the election of either Clinton or Obama.

  10. Chris Baker Says:

Romney is not really the conservative some voters seem to make him out as. Romney worked closely with Senator Kennedy for example and was a big on raising taxes as Governor of Massachusetts, although he called it closing “tax loopholes”. Two rounds of tax increases made it through the legislature, providing $377 million annually in increased state revenue, before the legislature blocked his proposed 3rd round.

The Massachusetts legislature is heavily Democratic but they actually blocked the so-called “conservative” Governor Romney from raising taxes - these were predominantly corporate taxes. Romney’s tax increases far exceeded Governor Huckabee’s who was in office 2.5 times longer than 1-term Romney.

Romney also in late 2005 supported the McCain-Feingold immigration reform bill, calling it a reasonable plan and defending it against charges it was “amnesty”. John McCain’s campaign found that in the media, but hasn’t picked up how big Romney’s tax increases actually were - he’s been using a lesser figure. Romney’s rather stunning tax increases were recently reported in the Massachusetts media.

    Vote Paul, last Chance!
