Ron Paul Wins Three W.V. Delegates

Tue, Feb 5, 2008 by Austin Cassidy

Odds & Ends

As it turns out, the Ron Paul campaign figured out a way to wheel and deal their way to three convention delegates from West Virginia.  Paul’s supporters made an agreement with the Huckabee campaign to swing their votes to the former Arkansas governor.  In exchange, the Huckabee camp promised that 3 of the state’s 18 delegates would go to Ron Paul supporters.

“Our goal is to secure as many delegates to the national GOP convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul as possible,” said Ron Paul 2008 campaign manager Lew Moore. “Securing three delegates in West Virginia is an important step in that direction. We plan on locking up more delegates before the day ends.”

This is an interesting deal, but it seems like the national media isn’t bothering to give Paul the credit for those 3 delegates.  All of the major media delegate counts show Huckabee with all 18 delegates in West Virginia.

The McCain campaign seems to have made a similar deal with Huckabee, but perhaps not for the same kind of payoff.  McCain’s camp simply wanted to deal Mitt Romney a defeat and help out Huckabee, who is widely believed to be campaigning for Vice-President.

Seems like the only man not for sale now is Romney.

Not for sale? Romney is trying to buy the election.

True… Romney supporters are for sale. Did you catch the youtube vid of Romney supporters voting multiple times in the Florida straw polls. I wonder how much they got paid???

The way I read and interpreted the situation is that Romney won the first ballot with Huckabee in second and McCain in third. McCain couldn’t have his “main” competition win so his votes went to Huckabee who was written off along with Ron Paul long ago. However, even with McCains votes Huckabee didn’t get the needed amount to beat Romney. He needed just a little bit more and that is where Ron Paul came in. Now Ron Paul apparently got ten percent in the first ballot and was then not on the second ballot. If you notice McCain still had a few votes, not sure how to interpret that. The biggest winner in this is Huckabee as he beats Romney and wins some delegates and attempt to reestablish himself. The second biggest winner is Ron Paul as he was able to capitalize and get some delegates. The third biggest weiner is McCain because Romney didn’t win.
